This small room is filled with often confused tourists trying to get a sense out of the exhibit under time pressure given that a group is packed into this space every 1/2 hour. The first part is confined to a small room containing large size reproductions of various pages of ancient texts to provide visitors with a context. Very disappointing exhibition and -at 18 euros/person- very expensive for what it offers. We strongly recommend going to the Chester Beatty Library which is marvellous, spacious, well done and for FREE. One doesn't get a real appreciation why the Book of Kells is so special and so important to Europe in the first Millennium, which is utterly sad. It is an experience visting the Book of Kells but be prepared that it is perhaps not good value for money, since it is only about half an hour you spend there for 18,50 Euros per person. Unfortunately also the shop was overcrowded. Without the marvellous Long Room we would have been very disappointed. It is sad the this negative experience overshadows the experience of the exhibition itself and the Long Room, which is marvellous. There is no cloak room for luggage and no lavatories on site, that means one has to go to the overcrowded university building on the other site and queue. In our view it is not well organised: Too many people are allowed in at one time, you are cramped in a rather small space and have to shuffle around many people to be able to read the displays, which isn't a satisfying experience. Visting the Book of Kells isn't cheap at all for the experience. My partner and I were excited to visit the Book of Kells exhibition and the book itself but we were underwhelmed by how it was organised.
